The 2008 education program offers you over 70 classes this summer, with more than half of them being new. Again, we continued courses that have been requested by you, and added those that we think you’ll find interesting and informative. We hope you agree.

For the first time this year, you can register for classes through this web site. In addition, you will be able to sign up for classes as you have in the past by filling out a registration form and turning it in to the business office. A third alternative will be to register for classes 9 a.m.- noon and 1-3 p.m. on Monday, June 9, in Loud Hall. If you register early, before the program begins, you will have greater assurance of not trying to register for a class that has been closed.

The first week of classes will be most interesting in that we will offer a class taught by Dr. Michael Ward, a C.S. Lewis scholar from Cambridge, England. He will lecture in the mornings at 10 a.m. Monday-Thursday, June 16-19, in Hall Auditorium, as part of the Religion and Life Forum. He will also teach a class for us at 2 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, June 16, 17 and 19, in Evelyn Hall. The fee for this class will be $25.

You will note we have expanded course opportunities in Bridge, have 11 classes in Crafts (most of these are new), five “delicious” offerings in Culinary Arts, old favorites and new challenges in Health and Recreation, more options in Study/Reviewing/Viewing than we have ever offered in the past (honest), and 10 classes for those of you who are artistically inclined. WOW, you say. You’re right.

The Current Issues Forum is scheduled for 10 a.m. Fridays in Loud Hall. The popularity of these lectures has increased so much in recent years that we purchased 50 additional chairs to comfortably seat the audience. David Scarrow has scheduled very interesting presenters again this summer. Barb Asbury returns to introduce the 20 foreign films on Monday nights in Voorhies Hall. Last summer broke all records for attendance and “contributions.” Thanks.
